Photography 1

OPEN TO FRESHMEN, SOPHOMORES, JUNIORS, AND SENIORS 1.0 MAJOR CREDIT AT LEVEL 9 / .5 ELECTIVE CREDIT

Photography 1 is a yearlong course that introduces students to the basics of black and white photography. Students develop cam- era skills, learn darkroom processes, and investigate the principles of art and elements of design. Students learn to observe, to express themselves nonverbally, and to solve problems analytically by processing information visually. Homework is assigned to students who take this course as a major; students who take this course as an elective should expect to shoot film outside of class. Students are required to supply their own 35mm camera with a functional light meter and manual exposure controls, film, mat board, and a basic photo kit.
