Recent New Trier grads to perform dance showcase on Chicago stage

Dance Lab 2019

The New Trier High School Dance Division proudly presents the Dance Lab 2 Showcase Chicago, on June 6 at 7:30 p.m. at the Hamlin Park Fieldhouse, 3035 N. Hoyne Ave, Chicago. Tickets are $5 at the door.

New Trier's capstone dance class, Dance Lab 2, will present original, cutting-edge work by recent graduates. The 45-minute show will consist of a series of solos, duets and trios strung together by interesting transitions.

The New Trier Fine Arts Association generously funds this performance, which was envisioned by New Trier dance teacher Johannah Wininsky out of her desire to provide her Dance Lab 2 students an opportunity to perform their original choreographed works in an iconic theater in Chicago. Dance Lab 2 is a double period, college-level dance class for seniors, focused in the art of modern dance and choreography. Students have worked since March to create innovative dance works through collaboration with their peers. This performance is unique in that it gives the students an opportunity to perform in a professional setting in Chicago.

"I am extremely proud of my students' choreographic and artistic accomplishments" Wininsky said. "They are dedicated to this process of preparing for a professional concert, even coming back to the New Trier dance studios to continue rehearsing after they have graduated."

The Dance Lab 2 choreographers and 2019 graduates are Jenna Katlin, Bailey King, Grace Lee, Yetong Li, Sarah Myers, Caroline Palasz, Bess Perry, Kara Philoon, Natalie Ringel, Miriam Rovin, Rebecca Smith, Victoria Werth, Abigail Wilson, and Claire Zoller.

In addition, New Trier alumnus Evan Ricaurte has designed the publicity materials for the concert using photographs of the Dance Lab 2 class, taken by current New Trier student and dancer Lindsey Economos.
