New Trier dance students bring showcase to Chicago stage June 8

Showcase Chicago

New Trier High School's Dance Division is proud to present Dance Lab 2 Showcase Chicago , a student-choreographed show on June 8 at 7:30 p.m. at the Vittum Theater, 1012 N. Noble Street, Chicago. Tickets are $7 and may be purchased at www.vittumtheater.org or by calling (773) 342-4141, and are also available at the door.
The performance will feature original, cutting-edge work by recent graduates from Dance Lab 2, New Trier's capstone dance class. The 70-minute show will consist of a series of solos, duets, trios and quartets strung together by interesting transitions.

The program was made possible by a grant from the New Trier Educational Foundation and the New Trier Fine Arts Association, and was envisioned by New Trier Teacher Johannah Wininsky. The showcase stemmed from Wininsky's desire to provide her students with an opportunity to perform their original works in an iconic theater in Chicago. Dance Lab 2, a double period, is a college-level dance course for seniors that focuses on the art of modern dance and choreography.

Students have worked since March to create innovative dance works through collaboration with their peers, and this performance is unique in that it gives the students an opportunity to perform in a professional setting in Chicago, Wininsky said.

"I am extremely proud of my students' choreographic and artistic accomplishments," Wininsky said. "They are dedicated to this process of preparing for a professional concert, even coming back to the New Trier dance studios to continue rehearsing after they have graduated."

The Dance Lab 2 choreographers and 2018 graduates are: Jessi Alt, Nicole Blesi, Emma Bliwas, Mulan Blum, Amy Boyle, Anna Caffarelli, Julia Damen, Tori Edington, Tatum Ewing, Molly French, Ayanna Gullien, Isabel James, Carli Kanter, Jamie Kohr, Caroline Lockwood, Katie Lorenz, Merryn McKeough, Louisa Perrin, Joanna Raimo, Grace Robinson, Olivia Rogers, Meghan Smith, Hannah Stein, Kara Struckman, Annie Tobey and Julia Vining.

In addition, New Trier alum Evan Ricaurte has designed the publicity materials for the concert using photographs of the Dance Lab 2 class, taken by recent New Trier graduate Jessi Alt.
