New Trier Science Olympiad finishes eighth out of 60 at National Tournament

New Trier Science Olympiad competed at the National Tournament at Cornell University on Saturday, June 1, and finished in 8th place out of 60 teams from across the country. This was New Trier's best placement since 2012. Coaches are Daniel Caldwell, Shayda Crosby, Kimberly Dwan, David Haak, Antony Harper, Alex Howe, Harold Slav, and Don Wurth.

  • Asher Noel won 1st place in Astronomy, 2nd place in Circuit Lab, and 3rd place in Thermodynamics
  • Edward Seol won 3rd place in Protein Modeling
  • Emilia McDougal won 1st place in Dynamic Planet
  • Eric Liu won 3rd place in Protein Modeling
  • Grace Yu won 3rd place in Thermodynamics
  • Irene Xu won 1st place in Astronomy
  • Isabelle Hester won 5th place in Fossils
  • Jason Yuan won 2nd place in Circuit Lab
  • Jibriel Saqibuddin won 2nd place in Boomilever
  • Jonathan Yuan won 2nd place in Boomilever
  • Karthik Srinivasan won 3rd place in Designer Genes
  • Louis Scheinfeld won 9th place in Code Busters
  • Penelope Tir won 1st place in Dynamic Planet
  • Pranav Doradla won 3rd place in Designer Genes and 3rd place in Protein Modeling
  • Yetong Li won 5th place in Fossils

New Trier also participated in two trial events. Luke Von Kapff and Elizabeth Feoktistov competed in Detector Building and finished in 19th place, and Michael Chen and Maryanne Xu competed in Environmental Chemistry and finished in 25th place.
