The New Trier debate program traveled to the University of Kentucky this weekend to compete at the Ohio Valley Invitational. The tournament played host to 68 teams from 8 states. New Trier seniors Celia Buckman and Connor Warshauer won 10 straight debates going undefeated to be crowned champions of the tournament! Connor was awarded the top individual speaker trophy with Celia earning the 3 rd place award in a field of 136 debaters.
Roland Kim and Jack Scullion (sophomore and senior, respectively) earned a 4-2 record in the preliminary debates and finished in the first elimination round. Roland finished as the 16 th individual speaker and Jack was the 17 th overall speaker.
Partners Jonathan Silverstein (senior) and sophomore Josie Ewing as well as Jack Brown (junior) and Lauren Wittenmyer (sophomore), also finished 4-2 in preliminary rounds with both teams advancing to the first elimination round!
In the novice division, first year debaters Alice Bowe and Jack Altman earned a 6-0 record in preliminary rounds and finished as quarterfinalists! Jack was awarded the 10 th individual speaker award. Freshmen David Peng and Irene Xu had a 4-2 record earning a place in the sweet 16 of the tournament!
Overall, New Trier had more teams competing in elimination rounds than any other high school attending the tournament! Go Trevs!
