The New Trier debate program just finished back-to-back weekends of competing and the evidence is clear: The Trevians are off to a great start.

Debaters traveled to Dallas, Texas this past weekend to compete against 115 teams from 17 states at the Greenhill Fall Classic. Seniors Josie Ewing and Hannah Kadin ended preliminary debates 5-1. The pair finished in the sweet 16 of the competition, earning one qualifying bid to the Tournament of Champions national tournament. Additionally, Kadin earned the seventh overall speaker award with Ewing being recognized as the eleventh overall speaker out of 230 debaters.

Seniors Jack Altman and Roland Kim also finished their preliminary rounds with a 5-1 record. They finished in the first elimination round of the competition

The weekend prior, New Trier debaters attended the Niles Township Invitational hosted by Niles North and Niles West high schools. In a field of 76 teams from six states, seniors Richard Jo and Lauren Wittenmyer went 5-1 in their preliminary rounds. They won two elimination debates to finish in the quarterfinals. Seniors Alanna Goldstein and Zach Lim went 4-2 in the preliminary debates and advanced to the first elimination round.

The program is also preparing to host its annual Trevian Invitational debate tournament at the Winnetka campus. Held over Columbus Day weekend, the tournament will welcome nearly 150 teams from 13 states.

Next up, New Trier's Congressional debaters head to Rolling Meadows High School on Sept. 22 for the first Illinois Congressional Debate Association tournament of the year.
