Carey Mestjian graduated from MacMurray College in 1962 and taught physical education at a junior high school in Denver for a couple of years before taking a year off to travel and work as a governess in Gstaad, Switzerland. She started teaching at New Trier in 1968 and graduated from DePaul with a degree in Guidance and Counseling in 1970. She wrote her dissertation on the NT adviser system. After teaching physical education and being an adviser she became the Girls Junior Adviser Chair. Married in 1972, she gave birth to her son in 1975. Carey co-ran the New Trier summer sports program in the 1990's and taught tennis. She died unexpectedly in September of 1996. She is dearly missed by her family. In August of 2012, her granddaughter and namesake, Carey Jean, was born.
