1958 - 1992
Katy Walsh was a member of the English Department faculty for 22 years, coming to New Trier in 1970 at the age of 22 after studying at the University of Chicago and Northwestern. She led five advisories and taught a wide range of classes, including a pioneering course that she developed on women in literature; and during a sabbatical Katy served as a director and chief operating officer of Ronald Knox Montessori School. Her death in 1992 inspired some colleagues to propose the creation of a New Trier memorial garden, and with many generous contributions of volunteer time as well as money, the garden was completed and dedicated in 1993. Katy's spirit continued to be felt at New Trier through the members of her final advisory (Class of 1994), her daughter Jennifer (Class of 1995) and her son Bill (Class of 1998).
