Alex Dewey was a lifelong resident of Wilmette and a good student at McKenzie, Highcrest, Wilmette Junior High, and finally New Trier High. Alex was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor at the age of eleven. During his three long years of treatment, Alex was granted a wish by the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and at the age of twelve he became the youngest person in the United States to skydive. He was active in many sports throughout his life, and found great success training and competing in Shotokan karate, achieving the rank of brown belt. But the deepest and dearest quality of Alex was his extraordinary kindness. He had a measure of compassion that was manifest in how he lived. He was quick with a smile and free with his laughter and always there for a friend. He was the absolute best big brother his sister, Kristen, could ever have wanted and the best son a parent could have. Our lives are better for the time we had with him and he is surely missed.
