New Trier scored 13 unanswered goals to a 15-1 lead, en route to a 20-2 win over Wheaton United in the sectional semi-finals of the state tournament.
After losing the first two draws and Wheaton cutting the lead to 2-1 at 21:43 in the first half, New Trier made some adjustments on the draw technique and alignment on the circle, and the Trevs were able to control the ball and pull away for good. Great presence on defense enabled Katie Busch, Charley Meier, Emma Tomlinson and Kyra LaMotte to all get interceptions that led to scores for New Trier.
The Trevs controlled possession by grabbing 19 ground balls and only turning the ball over seven times, while shooting 75%. Sophie King had a career high nine points (4 goals, 5 assists) and Katherine Gjerstsen added five goals. Courtney Kaskey had a hat trick, and Sophie Randle and Isabelle Sennett both had two goals also.
New Trier (19-3) will play Oak Park River Forest, the #15 seed, on Monday at 7:00 pm at Lake Zurich High School in the Sectional final.
