To the New Trier Township High School District 203 Community,
What does the future hold for New Trier High School? This year, we are working to answer that question as we come together as a community of parents, students, Township residents, teachers, and staff to develop a new strategic plan: New Trier 2030.
This work is grounded in two questions: (1) What is the purpose of schools? and (2) What skills, dispositions, and habits of mind will students need for their future? While the strategic plan may be titled New Trier 2030, much of the future for which we are preparing our students lies in the second half of this century
The first question has many possible answers, but for New Trier, that answer long has been: "To commit minds to inquiry, hearts to compassion, and lives to the service of humanity." Our school motto is as aspirational as it is concise and will serve as our Mission Statement for New Trier 2030
No one can fully answer the second question, though we as a school community share many beliefs about the tools students will need to lead fulfilling, impactful lives in the future
To be successful, our strategic plan must be centered on what is happening with students in classrooms, offices, hallways, performing arts stages, and athletic fields. Our vision of what our school must be to meet our mission will focus on the experiences and opportunities students have in all those arenas
Our strategic plan also must not overwhelm the system. To that end, we will prioritize the many ideas that will be generated by the process and we will make our priorities visible throughout the school and community. We will also have many programs that we want to examine, add, change, and enhance. Hence, the plan will be one that actively guides our work on an annual basis through 2030.
Finally, our strategic plan must involve our active and engaged community. Your voice is a crucial part of this conversation, and I urge you to take advantage of opportunities to participate. Many of you responded to a survey this September about New Trier's priorities. We also were thrilled to welcome more than 100 community members to our Community Engagement Focus Group evening in October. The results of both the survey and our focus groups will be posted on this page as soon as they are available
The strategic planning process is guided by a Planning Committee and individual Framework Committees with representatives from all of our District constituencies. We will regularly update this page with documents and reports on the planning process. You can read those reports in the links below.
I look forward to hearing from all of you as we set goals and priorities for New Trier High School now and into the future.
