Overview and Types of Engineering
Students will be exposed to seven or more engineering disciplines. Major emphasis is placed on: Mechanical, Structural, Civil, and Electrical Engineering; Computer and Materials Science; and Industrial Design/ Engineering.

•Design Process
Students will further develop their ideology for the design process called, Design Thinking. Through hands-on projects focused on building a solution, students will problem solve and explain how their choices and decisions were made OR Students will problem solve and explain how their choices and decisions were made through hands-on projects focused on building a solution.

•Engineering Systems
Students learn about the mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and control systems. For example, in mechanical systems students will build a Rube Goldberg device while learning about simple machines and gear trains. In electrical systems students learn about electrical circuit theories and integrated circuit chips and apply it through their own build projects. In fluid systems students learn overarching concepts and then apply those concepts to various pneumatic and fluid devices.

•Statics
Students learn about measurement, scalars, vectors, equilibrium, structural analysis, and strength of materials. Students apply the math and physics learned through a bridge build project to the construction of a bridge that must span a 6 foot gap and hold between 160 and 200 lbs.

•Robotics and Machine Control
Students learn various coding techniques to utilize sensor inputs and outputs which make a robot perform different tasks. Students ultimately use the skills gained in this unit along with other units to build a "Big Project", which is a collaborative engineering project for the entire class.

•Design and Development, aka Big Project
Big project is a student managed unit where an entire class is tasked with building a fully functional automated machine. Students are required to use and apply all of the knowledge and skills gained in each unit to complete this project. Past examples include an Oreo Cookie Assembly Line, Chocolate Bar Factory and an Automated UPS Style Distribution Hub.

•Materials and Materials Testing
Students learn the categories and properties of materials, how materials are shaped, joined and tested. Students also learn about various machining processes and how material selection requirements drive manufacturing techniques and quality control.

•Thermodynamics
Students will learn about units of energy and forms of energy, energy conversion, cycles, efficiency and energy loss, and conservation techniques. Students will test various materials to determine their isolative or conductive value and students will test how those values effect the energy efficiency of homes, cooling rate of computer processors and other equipment.

•Engineering Quality and Reliability
Students will use precision measurement tools to gather and apply statistics for quality and process control. Students will also learn about reliability, redundancy, risk analysis, factors of safety, liability, and ethics.

•Dynamics
Students will be introduced to linear and trajectory motion.

•Communication and Documentation
Students learn to document and explain their project designs by collecting and categorizing data, producing graphic representations, creating design proposals and an engineering notebook, and improving oral presentation skills.
