New Trier scored seven unanswered goals to end the first half and lead 13-2, en route to a 18-4 win in the IHSA Super-Sectional over St. Ignatius to advance to the IHSA state final four this weekend.
After St. Ignatius' goalie Maria Hagan made a couple of nice saves, Izzi King drew a shooting space foul and converted the free position for a 1-0 lead at 22:45. The Trevs dominated the draws and ground balls and the offense took advantage as Lucy Murray fed to Macy Zaban and Claudia Shevitz fed to Charley Meier to make it 3-0. Junior Olivia Buzby scored for the Wolfpack to make it 3-1 at 19:04. King scored to make it 4-1, and Murray found the other Zaban siser, Oliva, on a beautiful cut to make it 5-1. St. Ignatius answered back as sophomore sensation Nina Montes scored her 50th goal of the season to make it 5-2.
That's when Katie Busch, Macy Zaban, Amanda Nicholas, Meier and Ella Huber took over on the draw circle, while the Trevs ride forced five turnovers, including three by King, leading to a 13-2 lead at half.
In the second half, the defense played tough and the Trevs were able to control the ball, getting 29 ground balls on the night. King led the team with five, and Alcye Smith, Claire Gottreich and Rylin Douthit all had three. Annie Thompson, Macy Zaban and Lily Nicolaides finished out the scoring for the Trevs.
Meier, Nicholas and Busch all had four draw controls. King and Macy Zaban each had four goals, Olivia Zaban had three goals. Murry had four assists and two goals, and Thompson, Emma Merk and Shevitz each added two assists also.
The Trevians will play conference rival Glenbrook South on Friday at 7:00 pm at Hinsdale Central in the IHSA State semi-finals.
