With the score 8-5, New Trier's defense held the Golden Bears scoreless for the last 14 minutes, and the Trevs rallied back to tie the defending Ohio state champs.
With just over eight minutes remaining, Claudia Shevtiz scored to pull New Trier within two goals. After some tough defense, Shevitz forced a turnover that sparked a fast break and Olivia Zaban hit a wide open Lucy Murray who buried her shot to pull within one at 4:27. Murray was fouled on the shot, so the Trevs were awarded the ball at midfield, and Shevitz raced down the field and then drove and scored at 4:07 to tie the game. Upper Arlington won the next draw and the defense stepped up, led by Claire Gottreich and Charley Meier holding off the Golden Bears offense for over four minutes. UA called timeout with ten seconds left to set up their last play, but with under two seconds left Lydia Kaup and goalie Kate Burnham defended the last shot off a feed to end the game.
The Trevs caused 12 turnovers, four by Shevitz, three by Meier and two by Kaup. Shevitz led the offense with three goals and Murray had two. Annie Thompson scored on a crease roll and Zaban and Izzi King also added goals.
New Trier will face Glenbrook South next Thursday in their annual cancer awareness game. The Trevians will be collecting pledges for ground balls and caused turnovers to raise money for the American Cancer Society.
