The Trevs came out strong against CLS rival Maine South, going up 3-0 over the Hawks. New Trier would go on to a 20-7 win to advance to play Loyola in the Sectional Final.
After Charley Meier grabbed the opening draw, Olivia Zaban scored on a give and go feed from Annie Thompson. Zaban controlled the next draw and again, Thompson fed for a give and go feed, this time to Lucy Murray. Claudia Shevitz then scored three of the four next goals, all free position goals, the other by Meier, as the Trevs ball movement drew shooting space each time. The Trevs led 6-1.
The Hawks scored a nice play by All-Stater Katie Haley at 11:20. Lucy Murray drew double teams to get to assists to Shevitz and Thompson, to make it 8-2. Murray scored twice to end the half at 12-4.
Meier continued to dominate the draws, getting seven, many directed by Ella Huber or Katie Busch. Huber grabbed five draws herself. Amanda Nicholas also had two draw controls, as New Trier had 17.
The defense shined forcing 11 turnovers, seven on the ride, two by Izzi King, Shevitz and Meier. Sophomore Alyce Smith returned missing more than a month with an injury to force a turnover also on the ride. Huber had six ground balls to lead the team, Meier had five, Zaban had three.
Seven different players scored, Murray had four goals and four assists. Meier also had four goals. Shevitz had six goals. Thompson had five assists and a goal. Emma Merk added two goals. Nicholas and Zaban also scored.
Senior Kate Burnham had seven saves in goal.
