New Trier and Glenbrook South played in their 8th annual cancer awareness game. This year, they teamed up with "Go4theGoal" to wear gold laces and raise money to help kids facing pediatric cancer. The Trevs also raised money for the American Cancer Society to fight breast cancer. New Trier played inspired lacrosse and won 19-6.
After losing the first three draws, the Trevs made some adjustments and dominated the rest of the game, winning 19 of 26. Katie Busch, Macy Zaban and Ella Huber all did a great job on the draw. Charley Meier and Zaban each had six draw controls. New Trier also dominated the ground balls, getting 14, three by Claudia Shevitz and two by Madison Smith, to control possession.
The defense held a strong offense in check, which includes the leading scorer in GBS school history, Greer Brierly. Brierly had two goals, and the defense forced 10 turnovers, including five interceptions. Lydia Kaup was the voice of the defense, as Meier, Claire Gottreich and Mary Burke pressured and doubled the Titans all night.
The offense was led by seniors Olivia Zaban and Lucy Murray. Olivia had four goals on four shots, and Murray had three goals and an assist. Meier had a season high four goals also. The Trevs shot a season high 84%. Shevitz added three goals, Annie Thompson had two and a nice assist. Izzi King, Emma Merk and Macy Zaban also scored.
