Dear New Trier Families,

Thank you for your patience and partnership as New Trier High School makes plans to continue our students' education amid the rapidly changing COVID-19 pandemic. We are following the guidelines of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and local health agencies and understand our important role in supporting the health of our community as well as the safety and well-being of our students.

Right now, there are no reports of COVID-19 exposure or illness on our campuses. We know that could change. Enhanced sanitation measures and more frequent cleaning of high-touch areas continue at our campuses. At this point, while some Illinois high schools have closed for deep cleaning after a report of COVID-19 exposure, those without such exposure have remained open. Please know that we are monitoring this situation minute by minute and will have another update to you this afternoon. State guidance for schools can be found here:

Remote learning plans

All New Trier teachers have created plans to continue instruction through remote learning if New Trier needs to close its campuses for an extended period. Teachers have shared expectations with students to assure they are prepared to access assignments through the Canvas Learning Management system and participate in class from home. All teachers now are active on Canvas.

Should New Trier decide to close and employ Trevian Remote Learning Days, all parents and students will be notified and our website will be updated. General expectations for students and teachers during Trevian Remote Learning Days can be found here: .

Each night, students and staff should take home all computers, chargers, and other belongings needed in the event of an extended school closure.

Extracurricular activities and sporting events

We continue to review extracurricular activities and sporting events to determine whether they should continue, following the guidance of public health officials. We are in continual contact with the IHSA and Central Suburban League for guidance on high school athletic competitions. We encourage families to make the individual choices that are best for them. Our coaches and sponsors understand they need to provide that flexibility.

School-sponsored spring break travel

The families of classes and teams scheduled to travel out of state during spring break have been contacted with the most updated information about the status of those trips. We are reviewing each planned trip on a case-by-case basis as guidance on travel changes rapidly.

Communication with Families

Given the rapidly evolving nature of this pandemic and guidance for schools, we will continue to communicate regularly with families about our plans. We will provide another update to you this afternoon. For the latest information, please visit our web page:

We are asking families, staff, and students for patience and flexibility as we all adapt to this unprecedented situation. You will hear from me again before the end of the day.
