Dear New Trier Families,

Based on the rapidly evolving situation with COVID-19 and recommendations from public health officials to limit public gatherings, we are canceling school for students tomorrow, March 13. While we have no confirmed COVID-19 cases in the District, we are shifting to our remote learning plan in an abundance of caution. Remote learning will begin Monday, March 16 and continue until further notice. Our school buildings will be closed to students beginning Friday, March 13th. All activities and events are canceled until further notice. Tomorrow will be a work day for staff to make final preparations for remote learning.

Remote learning plans

All New Trier teachers have created plans to continue instruction through remote learning via the Canvas Learning Management system. General expectations for students and teachers during Trevian Remote Learning Days can be found here: .

Teachers will use different methods to deliver instruction, but all assignments will be meaningful and will keep courses moving forward. We instructed students today to take all books, electronics, and personal belongings home.

Spring break and future plans

Our spring break will go on as planned from March 21-March 29. All spring break school-sponsored travel has been canceled.

Students will not be assigned homework during spring break and will not have tests or projects due immediately after the break. Any decision on reopening our campuses will be made carefully in consultation with public health officials. We will keep families informed as this guidance develops.

Details for students accessing items that may have been left at school will be on the remote learning page later this weekend.

We are in contact with the College Board regarding plans both for the AP testing window and SAT testing in consideration of COVID-19. As you can imagine, those plans continue to be fluid. We will provide the latest information to families regarding testing as we receive it from the testing agencies.

Sports, Performing Arts, Clubs, and Community Events

All sports practices, team gatherings, and competitions, performances, clubs, class activities, and other events are canceled until further notice. Sponsors and coaches will not be allowed to hold practices or other gatherings off-site. We discourage students from organizing their own gatherings.

Communication with Families

We will continue to provide you with regular updates as this situation develops. For the latest information, please visit our web page:

This is a stressful and unprecedented situation for our school, our families, and our local and global community. We know there will be bumps in the road along the way, but together we will support our students and do what is best for them. I am proud to be part of a community with such a strong history of support for education. We will get through this together.
